Disrupt Berlin and electric vans. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, DECEMBER 4 2017 By Darrell Etherington

It's Disrupt Berlin time! Plus, there's a new Facebook Messenger app for kids no one needs and a new dedicated car share vehicle from one of the world's largest automakers.

1. Disrupt Berlin 2017 is on!

TechCrunch's last big event of the year is on right now, with Disrupt Berlin taking place in... well, in Berlin. It's day one of the conference right now, and already we've seen some big news on stage.

There's also the Battlefield competition, of course, which is happening both today and tomorrow. We'll know finalists later tonight, so check back in to see who's competing for the Disrupt Cup in tomorrow's finals.

2. Facebook made a messenger app for kids

Facebook doesn't want to cede its user funnel among the younger demographic, and it's put out a dedicated Messenger app called "Messenger Kids" for those under 13. Creepy, Facebook.

3. Volkswagen's mobility company introduces a dedicated rideshare car

Volkswagen's MOIA has revealed at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin what it's been working on since its inception last year – a car built specifically for shared use in a collaborative carpooling service. It's all-electric, and will start rolling out on roads beginning in the last half of next year.

4. Cats built using the Ethereum blockchain make real money

I have no idea what's going on in crypto. Meow.

5. Chase has closed its acquisition of WePay

Chase has closed its acquisition of WePay, the payment platform that's powering crowdfunding sites including GoFundMe.

6. Lia will market the first ever flushable pregnancy test

Lia's pregnancy test can be flushed down the toilet safely once used, which actually offers more than just convenience – it returns key agency and privacy protection to women, too.

7. Quick Insurance wins the Disrupt Berlin 2017 Hackathon

An app created to make it possible to insure things on-demand for as little or as long as you want won Disrupt Berlin 2017's Hackathon. Smart, and probably a good bet for insurance companies looking to expand their reach.
